Those figures go a long way toward justifying more capital into the sector, though they don't tell the whole story.
The picture is more complicated. Most of the measurable returns are concentrated in two areas: medical imaging analysis and administrative workflow automation. Radiology AI can flag subtle patterns a human eye might miss, and back-office tools shave away parts of the administrative burden that account for roughly 44% of healthcare spending. They succeed because the problems are well defined and the outcomes easy to measure. Clear-cut problems, clear metrics. That concentration matters, though: when capital chases a narrow set of wins, messier but important innovations can get sidelined.

The way funding piles into proven areas ends up steering everything else. Think, too, about health problems left unresolved for lack of usable training data and the patient groups who remain underserved because their needs don't translate into scalable business models.
